Scalers: from Airtable limits to a Retool app for recruitment

Scalers is a Saudi start-up that helps companies hire good candidates. Its customer success team ran day-to-day operations in Airtable until the company outgrew it. We built a custom Retool app to replace it, with OpenSearch for large datasets, REST and Slack integrations and automated workflows.

Airtable worked while Scalers was small. As the client base grew, it couldn’t keep up with the volume of data or the complexity of the work.

Managing candidate and client data involved manual steps that took time and let errors creep in.

Connecting Airtable to Slack and the other tools the team relied on was limited and hard to maintain.

What we built

A Retool app for customer success

One internal app where the customer success team manages candidates and clients, built in Retool so engineering time went into the integrations.

PostgreSQL and OpenSearch

Candidate and client records moved from Airtable into PostgreSQL, with OpenSearch handling search across the growing volume of data.

REST API integrations

The app connects to the other systems Scalers uses through their REST APIs.

Slack alerts

The Slack API keeps the team informed with notifications where they already talk.

Automated workflows

Repetitive tasks run on their own, freeing the team for work with clients and candidates.

Custom filters and components

A JavaScript query builder lets the team build their own filters without writing SQL, plus custom components for Scalers’ own processes.
